Authors of the white paper, “Effectively Managing Outsourcing Risk by Engaging Service Providers that Have Effective Internal Controls Verified by an Independent Attester,” outline the requirements set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) for collection vendors to hold the SSAE16 Type 2 certification. In fact, publicly-traded companies are required under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to exercise certain internal controls.
